Scottish Pupils Visit Parliament

INDIE group visit ParliamentScottish pupils visit Parliament

David recently participated in a Q & A session in the European Parliament with students from 47 schools across nine member states, including five schools in Glasgow (All Saints Secondary School, Hillhead High School, Holyrood Secondary School, Lourdes Secondary School and Shawlands Academy). The students have been working on a British Council project ‘Inclusion and Diversity in Education’ ( INDIE) to improve their school’s policies on discrimination and inclusion in schools and came to the Parliament to engage in a debate with MEPs on the question “Are countries in Europe doing enough to promote inclusion, and combat discrimination in schools?”  David commended the students, many of whom have run projects in their schools which aim to improve inclusion, on their valuable efforts.

A key focus of the British Council’s Inclusion and Diversity in Education, the INDIE  project has been about empowering and giving a voice to young people. The project is coming to and end, but is going to be part of a larger worldwide initiative of the British Council called Connecting Classrooms, promoting inclusion and diversity in schools worldwide.
